Art of the Router

by Patrick Spielman

Part of a series, this book on routing describes the speed, efficiency and versatility of the router. It shows examples of mortises, finger joints, pin and cove and ornate details. It also covers the history, care and sharpening techniques of the tool, and alerts the reader to possible hazards, such as spinning blades, flying wood chips, dust and noise, and suggest ways of mitigating these problems. Each routing technique receives attention, including surface routing, joinery, turning and carving. An array of artisans' work is reproduced, such as a multiple picture frame, a patina lamp, trays, elaborate potpourri boxes, a classic carved shelf, a mahogony carved clock, and a graceful curved hall table. Other items, such as desk organizers, blanket chests, stools and chests of drawers are also featured.
