The Shaker Legacy In his beautiful book, Becksvoort looks not just at the furniture itself, but goes deeper to look at the people and the beliefs that created it. He looks at the history and philosophy of the Shakers, and shows how their spirituality influenced their design. He then compares their style with other similar ones from countries such as Japan.
